Limapulo, a Michelin Select restaurant at 50, Jalan Doraisamy.
Limapulo by Baba Can Cook, was founded by the late John Tan Kim Chye (affectionately
known as Uncle John) and Alan Yun in 2014. Uncle John, a Baba, was the eldest son and
guardian of his family recipes. This is unusual as the kitchen was the domain of the
Nyonyas.
Alan and Uncle John both believe that the best way to preserve Peranakan heritage recipes
is by sharing them with the world.
Peranakan cuisine is a marriage of Hokkien flavours of soy and bean paste with the Malay
flavours of spice, coconut and tamarind. Dishes are labour intensive and elaborate, an
indicator of the wealth of the Peranakans.
